They Dyess We Care Team recently provided assistance to the Abilene Zoo with the construction of a train station, located just inside the entrance to the zoo. The WCT spent two Saturdays during the month of December assisting the Abilene Zoo staff with the construction of the train station. Michael Malm (Malm Construction) donated his time, experience and leadership with the construction efforts as will as providing much of the needed equipment.

The train station will be utilized for the boarding and the unboarding of the safari train passengers. The safari train has proven to be a very popular attraction at the zoo. Although it was just recently put into service this past summer the train had already carried some 27,000 passengers on it’s trek throughout the zoo. The Abilene Zoo is the number one tourist attraction in Abilene and broke the all time attendance records for 2011.
