The Abilene Zoo are proud supporters of the Dyess We Care Team. The Zoo is the #1 tourist attraction for the city of Abilene and the home for the We Care Team’s wishing well, the largest in the state of Texas!  The coins collected from the wishing well are used to help fund the numerous We Care Team projects.

The Abilene Zoo was established in 1919, where it was located at Fair Park. In 2006 the Zoo celebrated forty fun years at their current location in Nelson Park! Each year over 170,000 people discover the wonderful world of wildlife at the Abilene Zoo.

Home to over 600 animals from around the globe, a visit to the Abilene Zoo is filled with fun and excitement for the entire family. Check out the King Cobra at the Creepy Crawler Center, come eye to eye with giraffes on the giraffe bridge, and stroll through the new Elm Creek Backyard, home to dozens of Texas species.

The zoo’s Education Department provides educational programs, summer camps, weekend programs, tours, pre-school classes, and special events year-round. The Zoo also has many ways to volunteer, such as zoo teens and docents. School groups are welcome, as well as birthday parties!
