Volunteers from the Dyess We Care Team, the Kiwanis Club of Abilene, Abilene Christian University, West Texas Rehabilitation Clinic and other groups donated their time to build the 13 wheelchair ramps in the city of Abilene and one ramp in Merkel. Approximately 135 volunteers took part in the event with the We Care Team providing approximately 80% of the workforce.

The ramp blitz project is part of The Texas Ramp Project, an organization that builds wheelchair ramps at the homes of disabled and indigent people. The organization began in 2006 and has built a total of 2,885 wheelchair ramps.
