The Dyess We Care Team completed painting the third home in the Alameda addition. Numerous volunteers showed up on Saturday to give their time and completed the project in one day.
In addition to painting the house, some rotted boards were replaced and motion detector lights were installed in the front and back. Upon learning a bit more about the home owner it was revealed that furnace in the home no longer worked and that she had been using the kitchen stove to try and heat the home in the winter and a broken window in the front of the house. On top of that the stove did not completely work. So the WCT had a few more surprises for the homeowner with the help of our friends.
First Economy Heating and Air came to the rescue and fixed the furnace. All-Pro glass donated their time and materials to come and repair the broken window. Malm Construction came and repaired many of the old and rotted boards on the home and well as improving the support of the front porch cover. The north side Lowe’s gave the WCT a great deal on a new kitchen stove. Funds from the CFC were used to purchase the stove. The new stove was brought through the back door of the house, prepped and installed without the homeowner knowing as she thought they were working on her old stove. It was a big surprise when she walked into her kitchen and saw her brand new stove for the first time.
Now the homeowner has the newly painted home, a furnace that works, a window that doesn’t let in cold air and a brand new stove. All just in time for the Holidays.
A very special thank you to all of the volunteers and local merchants for making this a very special day for very appreciative homeowner and family.
