SrA Grenon Named Volunteer Of The Year

SrA Stephanie Grenon was named this year’s Volunteer of the Year at the Dyess We Care Team’s 12th annual awards banquet held at McMurry University. The award was presented to SrA Grenon by new 7th Bomb Wing Commander Col Glen VanHerck. Stephanie is the first female in the history of the We Care Team to win this prestigious award.

Col Glen VanHerck spoke briefly to those in attendance about the importance of the Dyess We Care Team and the training opportunities that it provides in developing the future leaders of the United States Air Force. Although Col VanHerk just recently arrived at Dyess AFB and the City of Abilene, he was fully aware of the impact the WCT has had on both the base and the city. He mentioned the strong relationship between Dyess and the City of Abilene and how the citizens of Abilene love and support the base. It is because of this relationship why he believes that it is the responsibility of the base to give back to the community, such as exemplified by the WCT.

Three Superior Community Service Awards were also handed out during the festivities. This award is in recognition to those volunteers that have given more that 250 hours of volunteer service with the WCT. Receiving the awards were SrA Stephanie Grenon, SrA John Tomsich, as well as a very surprised Mrs. Ernesta Singleton who also served as MC of the event.

SSgt Michael Miller was presented with the Founders Award, an award that is ‘hand selected’ by WCT founder MSgt (Ret.) Gordon Storey. The WCT Executive Committee unanimously voted to recognize Malm Construction as this year’s Star Supporter of the Year.
