Mission Statement:
At Dyess We Care Team, our Airmen are equipped not with guns or rifles but with brushes and rollers to paint homes and offer minor project-related repairs to support the elderly, disabled, and others in need.

Our Purpose:
The Dyess We Care Team is dedicated to fostering leadership, promoting mentorship, strengthening resiliency, and enhancing camaraderie within Dyess AFB through meaningful community service.

Our Team:
Comprising primarily of active-duty Airmen, participation in the Dyess We Care Team is entirely voluntary. We aim to schedule two Saturdays per month for We Care Team projects. During fair-weather months, we have the flexibility of scheduling outdoor projects for approximately 14 days.

Types of Projects:
Our team focuses on painting houses with some associated repairs, and the recipients must be the homeowner. Our focus is on projects that can be completed within a short timeframe, typically 2 – 3 Saturdays and do not require Texas state certification or a licensed contractor. Here are some examples of the types of projects we typically undertake:

• Exterior Painting: We breathe new life into homes by providing exterior painting services. A fresh coat of paint can transform the look of a house and enhance its curb appeal.
• Replacing Dry-Rotted Boards: We may address issues of deteriorating or rotting boards, when not excessive, on the exterior of homes. This helps maintain the structural integrity of the property and ensures its longevity.
• Changing Exterior Lighting: Our team may upgrade or replace outdoor lighting fixtures, improving both the aesthetics and safety of a home’s exterior.
• Affixing New House Numbers: We make it easier for visitors to find homes by installing new house numbers or updating existing ones, adding a touch of personalization to each residence.
• Installing Handicapped Ramps: When we work with Texas Ramp Build, we may have the opportunity to make homes more accessible by installing handicapped ramps for individuals with mobility challenges.
• NOTE: Our budgetary limitations MIGHT restrict us from pursuing anything beyond painting.

While we’re committed to serving our community, some requests exceed our capabilities. Tasks like roofing, foundation repair, and specialized electrical or plumbing work require licensed contractors and certification, which are beyond our scope. Other examples of projects that fall outside of our purview are: installing windows, repairing/replacing fencing, lawn care, packing & moving, A/C & heating maintenance, and automotive repairs.

Project Consideration:
Due to our military mission, we may not be able to reach out to every requester if their submissions fall outside our purview (painting houses). We can contact you only when we are strongly considering your request for scheduling.

When we do decide to proceed, a representative from The Dyess We Care Team, serving as the Team Leader, will get in touch with you to assess the situation. If the Team Leader possesses the required skill set for the task, we will notify the recipient and set a project date.

Service Details:
The Dyess We Care Team provides both free labor and materials. As a result, we receive a high volume of requests. Unfortunately, the selection process can take several months. For more immediate assistance, we recommend contacting 211 for additional resources.
