Dyess Airmen were recognized for their volunteerism July 26, during the 14th Annual We Care Team Awards Banquet at McMurry University in Abilene, Texas. This year first lieutenant Victor Guinn (photo above) was named Volunteer of the Year. Victor is assigned to the 7th CES and is the first officer in WCT history to receive the award. The 7th CES also received the Squadron of the Year Award for the second consecutive year.
The banquet is held to honor those who spend their free time with the Dyess WCT helping rebuild the lives of less fortunate Abilene community members. Through hard work and dedication, volunteers are awarded points for hours, projects, fundraisers and consistency.
The top volunteers represented 525 of the WCT’s estimated 4,000 volunteer hours and assisted in raising a significant amount of money for Abilene organizations and the community.
Retired Col. Todd McCready, former 7th Maintenance Group commander, who was active in the WCT while stationed at Dyess AFB, returned to Abilene to help present the Volunteer Squadron of the Year Award, an award in which he has sponsored. Col McCready was one of the We Care Team’s biggest supporters while he was here at Dyess. The evening meal was provided by long time WCT supporters Classic Fare Catering.
Judge Downing Bolls for served as Master of Ceremonies for this years event with special guest speaker State Representative Susan King. All meals were bought and paid for by our wonderful banquet Sponsor – Star Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram Hyundai, allowing all ticket donations go towards the purchase of some much needed ladders!
