Yesterday the Dyess We Care Team continued work on the new Safari Train Station located at the Abilene Zoo. In fact so many volunteers showed up that the zoo staff scrambled to find additional projects and work where the volunteers could be utilized. The bulk of the volunteers completed staining the wood of the new train station. The new station will be the point where zoo visitors will board the now famous safari train. The safari train has been a big hit with many of the zoo visitors since it’s introduction last year. The zoo hopes to have the train station operational in a couple of weeks in time for Spring Break, which is an extremely busy time of the year for the Abilene Zoo. They hope to have the train station completed with a roof, electricity and ceiling fans by Memorial Day Weekend. Thank you to all of the volunteers that gave of their time on a Saturday afternoon to help with this project.
